Very novice user here looking for advice. I am trying to run an OBDii scan software program called digimoto lite.
It uses a usb adapter to plug into the car for the connection. My problem is that the software is asking me to assign the COM port and I have no idea where to start with this. I am using one of three side usb ports on my Dell XPS M1530 running vista. Do these have assigned, static com port numbers?
If so how can I determine which port is what com port#? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Are you able to go into Device Manager (Start - Run, then type in 'devmgmt.msc' and hit Enter) and tell me what you see there? You should see something like this.
Look under Ports (COM and LPT) and list out the ports that you see there. Anything labeled COM should be immediately considered for this - since an XPS only has USB, you'll be able to pick it out pretty quickly.
